Listed first, and not grudgingly. If one of these is what you need, Microsoft is the better buy and this page has done its job.

The formats are theirs. Word, Excel and PowerPoint are defined by Microsoft. Anyone else, us included, is reading a specification. For a hundred-tab workbook with macros and pivot caches, use Excel.
Enterprise identity and compliance. Entra, retention, eDiscovery, DLP, audit, admin policy. If your organisation runs on these, no independent tool substitutes for them.
Teams and Outlook depth. Meetings, calendars, chat and mail as one graph, with Copilot reading across all of it.
Breadth. Mail, storage, identity, meetings and more than ten apps in one bill. LumenQube does documents and the work around them, and nothing else.

Where LumenQube is different

Which one should you actually use?

Choose Microsoft if…

your company already runs on Microsoft 365 and IT decides
you need eDiscovery, retention policy, DLP or tenant-wide audit
your spreadsheets are enormous, macro-driven, or bound to legacy Excel behaviour
Teams is where your meetings and your mail already live

Choose LumenQube if…

Plenty of people run both. Nothing here is exclusive — LumenQube reads and writes the file formats the rest of your stack already speaks.

Being straight about what we do not have. LumenQube has no tenant administration, no eDiscovery, no retention policy and no DLP. We do not claim byte-perfect fidelity on the most complex Office files — a workbook with heavy macros, pivot caches or legacy calculation quirks belongs in Excel. And LumenQube has no mail client and no meeting product; Teams and Outlook have no equivalent here.

Questions people ask

Can LumenQube open .docx, .xlsx and .pptx?

Yes, and it exports them again. For everyday documents, models and decks that round-trip is what most people need. For a workbook built on macros, pivot caches or legacy calculation behaviour, keep using Excel — we would rather say that than have you find out later.

Is this a Microsoft 365 replacement?

Not for an organisation running on Entra, Exchange and Teams. For a person or a small team who mainly needs to open files, finish them and send them, it removes most of the reason to buy a suite.

What about my compliance requirements?

LumenQube is publicly registered with the Cloud Security Alliance against the recognised standards for cloud security and responsible AI. It does not offer tenant-level eDiscovery, retention or DLP. If your obligations name those specifically, Microsoft is the answer.

Does the AI train on my documents?

LumenQube does not use your content to train a generalized AI model as a product purpose. Content is sent only when you request an AI feature, to the selected processor or eligible fallback needed for that request. A provider's own data use, retention and permitted security or legal processing depend on the service and our account terms and settings. See Privacy Policy §7.

How is it free?

Every editor is free with no trial timer and no watermark, and a free account includes a monthly AI allowance. Paid plans buy a bigger allowance and a more capable engine — you pay for AI, not for the ability to open a file.
